Despite his record, does Eastman really have any shot at winning this fight?

Oscar is promoting it, and he surely would favor a Hopkins win because of more lucrative fights down the line.

Any thoughts?

My thought(s) are how do we make any money here. Who is this Eastman? Why him? At any rate, from what this mystery man said, he will go after Bernard with a vengence and drop him. Well, it's a tune we have heard before. Is this "fight" really generating ant interest, I don't know. Seems like a bomb to me, but for my money. no way to tell.

Eastman-no chance. Hopkins will have to hit himself in the nards to lose this one. The line is way too low

i must say that anytime you lay over 5-1 on a 40 year old guy....vs a decent fighter....which eastman appears to be....you are taking a chance....

guys usually start hitting the wall alot earlier than their 40`s....hopkins is an anomaly..

that said,if hopkins is still hopkins,he`ll get there....

might consider a hopkins inside the distance prop if it pays a little...not sure about eastman`s defense...

g.l.,guys..

I see Pinnacle opened at -545 (or something like that) and this morning is -589. I really don't want to lay that chalk. Money seems to pouring in on the Over 11.5 It's -231 this morning.

I may play the under 11.5. Line keeps creeping up. I guess no one thinks a KO is in order.

Thanks for all who commented.

Just to add another thought here. This "contest" is being promoted by Oscar deLa Hoya promotions of which Hopkins is a partner. Now here we have two of the most prolific wise-guys in all of sport. Very astute business men, and now they have combined their resources. WFT!.

Hopkins has an edge in just about every category here besides age. But in boxing years he is a young fighter. Really never taken anything close to a beating in the ring. He is stronger, in better condition and hungrier(nobody has more desire than this guy, and we all know what kind of shape he keeps himself in) and has more experience. He is a bit slower than Eastman, but he will be the faster thinker in there. If you waiting for Hopkins to get old, dont bet on it here. This isnt the night. I get the feeling his time may come if he gets in ther vs. Jermaine Taylor or a Glen Johnson, but I dont even see Trinidad doing it.
In this fight, If I see anything I like it may be the under. But very small. I could see Eastman going down on his shield here. I think the best thing in this fight is sit back and watch the best fighter of the last 15 years go to work.

you have to wonder....no disrespect to the europeans.....but,you see guy like junior witter go on a knockout tear vs guys with excellent records...in europe.....and in truth, witter isn`t a real big puncher when stepping in with world class guys...all these guys that he k.o.`ed of late couldn`t break an egg power-wise...

eastman lost to "bighead" joppy....who should be a jr middle...not a middle....if he had a normal sized head,he`d be a welterweight.....a huge disadvantage for joppy...that head is about a third of his body weight.......

but,i digress.....trinidad,hopkins and taylor toyed with joppy...eastman struggled to a closer loss than the cards would indicate due to a last round knockdown...

but maybe hopkins has gotten old overnight....that`s what you are betting on with eastman...because all things being equal,he gets handled by a hopkins..

if he`s still hopkins...

this is NOT the best play then. olympic has U11.5 +190 BUT Hopkins by KO/TKO/DQ +285

if you think hopkins will win the fight and go U11.5 rounds - the ONLY way to play this one is +285

Winky,

Yes, earlier in the week or whenever I posted, I was leaning under. Will take a shot on Hopkins inside the distance prop at five dimes or somewhere else because after looking at this fight, I like Hopkins and I think the better value is on the prop. Some real good discussion on boxing in this thread. The boxing guys on this site are really knowledgeable. Thanks again everyone for your thoughts.

Do you follow boxing Winky? I follow it, but definitely not as closley as others around here.

guys,

i think hopkins is in trouble vs taylor. what middleweight fight did he ever fight that had you holding your breath? oscar aside probably the best he fought was echoles a true middleweight. his style will always give trinidad problems. holmes and joppy were good but not great. i personally think he is overrated and not near what hagler was. he is smart in top shape fights his own pace and dirty as hell but what do you expect from an old philly fighter. after he fought jones he told me he hit jones with a body shot in the 4th round and he heard jones grunting the rest of the fight and that after that shot jones ran around and would not fight because he knew he would have been knocked out. if thats the case he should have taken the short money to get jones again and not just run his mouth how a few million was not worth it. also it would have been interesting to see him fight toney a couple of years back.

He may not be a top five all time, but the guy has defended his title 20 straight times. DOesnt that really stand for something in this day in age. He is an all time great. He may not be as pleasing to the naked eye as guys like Tyson and Jones, but he wins, and that means something. With that said, If he does fight Taylor, and he finds a way to beat him, I would be really impressed, bc Taylor seems like the kind of fighter that would give him fits. Fast, strong, young. If Hopkins ever beat him that would mean alot more to me than beating Oscar or Trinidad. Taylor is a true middleweight...Hopkins would have to be on his A+ game in that one

That is a tough one. If it happend right now, I would say Taylor.. but who knows what happens when he takes a left hook flush. I would see the line as Tito -190... Taylor isnt the kind of fighter I think would roll over any top stars, but he is quick, good power, and very strong for a middle weight.. Hard to bet against him..
